Known as the residential and commercial neighborhood where eastbound Cedar Road forks into Cedar to the left and Fairmount to the right, it emerged as the “gateway to the Heights” as early as 1918 when the Tudor-style Heights Center Building opened on the north side of Cedar Road between Lennox and Surrey roads.

Location is everything with this neighborhood. Proximity to Case Western Reserve University and University Circle (where Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital are located) make this a great option for graduate students and residents looking for a place to live.

There are lots of different housing options for renters in Cedar-Fairmount. Single-family homes, duplexes and small apartment buildings abound. While smaller apartment buildings may not have all the bells and whistles - like gyms or lobbies - they’re filled with the charm of a previous era. Original wood floors, decorative or working fireplaces, and, tall baseboards are frequently features in rental properties in Cedar-Fairmount.

Here are five Cedar-Fairmount spots as listed as “do not miss” by our team in Cleveland:

Vero Pizza Napoletana: Vero’s authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, thin delicate-crusted beauties with enough crisp dark char on the bottom are a neighborhood favorite.

Appletree Books: This independent bookstore was established in 1975 and offers an eclectic, well-curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults.

Cedar Fairmount

Luna Bakery & Cafe: Best known for their delicious, creatively styled baked goods, which range from colorful macarons to chocolate croissants and pumpkin sweet potato pies with brown sugar meringue.

Barrio: Grab a margarita and stay awhile with friends. Barrio’s monthly taco, salsa, guacamole, and queso specials keep customers coming back month after month.

Nighttown: If you like jazz even a little bit, or just enjoy a great music venue, then Nighttown is a must. Its noir-y vibes are a monument to the cool of a bygone era. BONUS: they serve up a delicious brunch
